This event has ended.

MF Gallery presents a new art show by Fernando Carpaneda, Frank Russo and Moses Jaen. The art in this show deals with the grittiness of society, as seen through the eyes of Punk Rock, Horror and Psychedelia. Each artist will be presenting some new paintings and sculptures depicting humans, monsters, and everything in between.

Fernando Carpaneda was one of the first Brazilian artists to exhibit homoerotic works in Brazil. Beggars, pop stars, sex workers, punks and outcasts of all kinds are the object of his attention and look. He portrays them in clay sculptures and acrylic paintings. Using DNA as artistic material- be it his own hair or that of his models- he blends it with wood, fabric, cement, stencil and canvases while preparing his sculptures and paintings. Early in 2000, Carpaneda started a series of sculptures portraying scenes of explicit sex, pop stars and rent boys as a form of re-reading the aspirations of Greek and Roman statuary.

Frank Russo is a Brooklyn born artist who has been drawing comic books since the age of nine. His art fuses a life-long love for trash culture and fast music with a wide variety of styles and media such as comics, paintings, toys, props and costumes. Aliens, Monsters, Robots, Skeletons, Hideous Beasts, Witches and Grizzly Ghouls are all subjects of his psychedelic and sometimes brightly colored artworks.

Moses Jaen is a self-taught sculptor who uses a range of materials from Bondo to wax to create his world. His vision takes a humorous approach to twisted realistic gore. Jaen studied cartooning at the School of Visual Arts and currently resides in Queens, NY. Influenced by a long list of comic book artists growing up, much of his inspiration was also derived from “behind the scenes” features. As much as he loved the movie, he was always more fascinated by observing how the creatures and FX were brought to life. In addition to his sculptures, Jaen will be exhibiting some new watercolor paintings.
