This event has ended.

The show will feature new silk tapestries, lenticular prints, mixed-media oil paintings, and a video projection. Hillock’s goal with this new series of art based around the concept of an invented mythology is to investigate the hero myths of various cultures, cross applying them to divide between URL art (net art, new media, etc) and IRL (in real life) art as a way to bring the often isolated world of net art into a larger conversation about the nature of being and art creation.

In his own words, “We have come to a point where art & technology have become naturalized and integrated into everyday paradoxical life. We have come to see enchantment with technology, design, & consumerism produce echo chambers of systematic aesthetics. It is apparent that the artist’s hand has been removed. I am introducing my cursor to humanity’s empty screen of hypocritical struggle and never ending myth.”

Hillock was born in Harvey, Illinois and is classically trained in fine art. He received his degree in painting from Pratt Institute. The tension between a symbiotic story and its situation is mirrored in his personal life through his work. He now lives and works in New York City showing with OUTLET Fine Art along with creating site-specific work for URL/IRL galleries/platforms/spaces/ groups. Among other exhibitions he has shown at THE WRONG: New Digital Art Biennial in São Paulo (2013) and the Zimbabwe Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennial.
