This event has ended.

The Goethe-Institut presents Los Angeles- and New York-based collective My Barbarian’s adaptation of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s play Blood on the Cat’s Neck at its Wyoming Building space, including a panel discussion, a series of performances, and a video installation.

My Barbarian will transform the Wyoming Building into an exhibition space and a theatrical set with original masks and dolls modeled after members of Fassbinder’s acting company, set pieces, and video projections. A four-day run of performances will be shot like a television production in front of a live audience, resulting in a video play to be shown during the week after the performances.

Following My Barbarian’s version of Brecht’s The Mother performed at the 2014 Whitney Biennial, this play takes the group deeper into its exploration of modern theatrics, the historic Left, and legendary collectives, drawing on Fassbinder’s theatrical approach and reflecting his company’s important influence on queer American artists and their inventive uses of theater, film, and television.

Panel discussion: December 7, 5:00pm
Performances: December 11-12, 8:00pm, December 13-14, 6:00pm & 9:00pm
Video installation: December 7-21, Wed-Sun, 2:00-7:00pm
