“Two by Two/De Dos en Dos,” an exhibit of assemblage, painting, and photography by bi-national artists Luis, Karen, Annette, and Thomas Stephens. Through the common threads of family and diversification of bioculturalism, each artist explores an individual and richly visual response to their lives in both Mexico and the USA. Luis Stephens challenges visual space through the depiction of figures in surreal settings or by juxtaposing found objects on reclaimed surfaces. Karen’s paintings capture the immediacy of landscape through vibrant use of color, Annette’s photography reveals the graphic rhythms and interplay of shapes in every day settings, and Thomas composes the syncopation of color and form through abstraction. This is the first time these works have been shows collectively and is an opportunity for four artists with a shared familiarity and commonality of history to create and express individuality.
