This event has ended.

RARE is pleased to present Fin(n)ish: Fresh Contemporary Art from Finland, our end-of-season group exhibition of six emerging artists who live and work in Finland. With show producer Aleksi Tammi, the gallery shines a light on the vital contemporary Finnish art scene unfamiliar to most American art audiences.

Participating artists Ville Andersson, Hanna Kanto, Katri Mononen, Aleksi Tammi, Timo Vaittinen, and Ea Vasko utilize various mediums and techniques along with wide-ranging imagery to paint a picture of a diverse, energetic, and quirky art scene. They convert the gallery into a magical otherworld that seems to inhabit a far-off, dreamlike dimension. Each work - be it a painting, drawing, photograph, or installation - exists in a space between fact and fable, distilling the essence of the Finnish aesthetic landscape.

Whether inspired by the special northerly qualities of the Finnish landscape itself (paintings by Kanto, Mononen; drawings by Tammi; photographs by Vasko), a desire to explore the darker corners of our psyche (photographs by Andersson), or the promise of a new magical age (installations by Vaittinen), each artist provides us with a glimpse into the Finnish spirit - one of quietude and boldness tinged with a gentle subversiveness and an eerie apartness.
