This event has ended.

Rapid, relentless, yet surprisingly poignant, each one of Pierre Leclerc’s paintings is a burst of emotion. Using mainly acrylic, Leclerc paints in varying degrees of abstraction. In certain works a face or environment is plainly visible amid the visual workings, and in others the subject is so processed that the pure texture completely overwhelms the canvas. Leclerc has described his paintings as “a passionate and emotionally charged expression” responding to external triggers, especially large-scale catastrophic events that affect society. But his subject never feels overly generalized. Though he is depicting something as intangible as emotion, his technical skill ensures that each painting is tightly constructed and aesthetically sophisticated. Leclerc’s signature treatment is his multidimensional, short, fast brushstrokes. The dashes build form while at the same time being intriguingly transparent. Each stroke somehow spans several layers of vivid color. The marks explode out in every direction, giving the eye an incredible opportunity to dance.

Leclerc was born in Montreal, Canada and painted figurative works before moving into abstraction. He is also a trained architect.
