“Devotional Spaces” Exhibition

This event has ended.

The works in this show reflect a universal concern about the condition of being an artist, the same condition that may exist for a basketball player or a cook. Artists have an internal need to make; it solves a condition we share. We pick up our pencils and brushes and then start. A journey ensues that we don’t want to understand. We just go on it. The material pushes and pulls, it creates a place, a space, and a story. If we are lucky, something happens. We walk out of the studio free of a burden. Clarity ensues, and then we can’t remember where we parked our car at the beginning of the day. The works here are examples of that journey, of it giving us what we need when we work, and of faith can that it be seen in these spaces. Cathedrals, thumbprints, playful tinkering, repeated marks, and meditative lines are all ways that we enter a new space and something passes through us. All of us want to go to a devotional space - a desire shared with fellow artists, companions on that journey. At Ventana 244, we made a space to enter with our fellow artists. The work lined up along the wall gives us a story. The mirrors reveal that we are not alone and that we should all get back to work.
