This event has ended.

Raised up and down the west coast of the United States in a multicultural family, Madelene Brizuela grew up in various American cities and in Thailand. In her illustrations, she explores “the void between all things.” This exploration ranges from literal space, the intimate spaces that people collect themselves in for a moment, to the intangible space in human relationships, whether it is a relationship between loved ones or between strangers. She is fixated on behaviors that form in individuals and between people due to outside influence.

Brizuela utilizes collage elements mixed with acrylic paints, and makes sure that each brush stroke stands alone, but aids in the completion of the bigger picture. Due to her uprooted, hazy childhood, she incorporates that mysterious, displaced lost-in-translation sensation in her works.
