Richard La Presti “Recent Paintings”
Bowery Gallery
This event has ended.
La Presti loves crowds at the beach, and most of the works have lots of bathers; he is a expert at realizing multifigured compositions. You will recognize these figures from your trips to the beach. People stand and look out at other people and the water; people lie down, sit on towels or chairs, listen to the radio, relax and eat; children are playing. People wear shorts, t-shirts, bathing suits and bikinis. The water is of many colors along with various shades of blue. Figures sometimes define the shoreline, or they wade out into the lake, look around, swim, and dunk.
In several paintings the shoreline is not faced directly although most bathers sit facing the water; a different angle is explored to give the viewer another way to visualize a beach scene. There is grass and trees and mountains here. The paintings are life-affirming, positive, and joyous.
La Presti will also show landscapes, interiors of his new studio in the Northern Catskills where he lives, and self-portraits.
