Denise Bibro Fine Art presents the solo exhibition of one of its artists, Jeremy Comins, Unfolded: Carved & Constructed Sculpture.

Comins’ most recent sculptures are constructed from hand carved wood and shaped industrial PVC pipe. The incorporation of plastic materials into his new body of work marks the beginning of a contrasting chapter in Comins’ vernacular. The assemblages of Comins’ wood and mixed media sculptures continue to express his ongoing fascination with organic forms and human psychological states, while the addition of plastic materials gives his work an even more contemporary edge. By juxtaposing warm and living natural matter with hard and finite plastic elements, Comins creates pieces that intrigue and invite the viewer to project his or her own interpretation of the balance between space and form, the living and the inert.

In her review of Comins in the New York Times, Roberta Smith wrote, “…his works…would do any museum proud…” The works in his new exhibition are evidence that after decades of honing his craft and sensibilities, Comins continues to produce compelling art of an individual nature.

Jeremy Comins has had solo exhibitions at Mari Gallery, Bodley Gallery, and Roko Gallery in New York, as well as the Staten Island Museum, NY. Some of his group exhibitions include St. Francis College, NY; New Century Gallery, NY; Sculpture Guild at Saks 5th Avenue, NY; Supermarket Art Fair, Stockholm; Venezuelan Consulate, NY; Art Cologne, Cologne; Affordable Art Fair, NY; the Silvermine Guild, CT; and the National Academy of Design, NY. His work has been featured in Woodwork magazine, and he has authored and illustrated several books including. Comins has also received several awards and honors, including the Florence and Zlowe Memorial Award, 2007, the Harry Ballinger Memorial Award, 2002, the Hannibal Debellis Sculpture Award, 2001, the Graham Gallery Sculpture Award, 2000, among others.
