This event has ended.

Four decades after his groundbreaking Altered Landscapes series, Pfahl’s work continues to elucidate intricacy of photographic practices, and his printing continues to be impeccable. He is a master of the photographic landscape’s complexity and wit.

Pfahl’s fascination with the two-dimensional representation of three-dimensional space remains a bellwether of contemporary photography. Using a large-format camera, he traveled throughout the country, observing these amazing scenes. The photographs are smart and they’re funny. His facility for rendering color, in straight photographs, is virtually unmatched.

JOHN PFAHL (American, b. 1939) has been a renowned photographer since the 1970s. His work is included in most major museums and collections throughout the world. Among his monographs are Altered Landscapes, Picture Windows, Arcadia Revisited, A Distanced Land, and Waterfalls. He lives in Buffalo, because he can leave. In 2013, he was awarded the George Eastman House’s Lifetime
