This event has ended.

Alongside her work as a professor of calligraphy, developing her calligraphy school over the last 16 years, RIHAKU Inoue is also engaged in creating her own works of modern calligraphy. As calligraphy falls further away from the spotlight in Japan in recent years, she wishes to convey the excellence and beauty of Japanese calligraphic art to the world. She also hopes for Japanese people to gain a new awareness of calligraphy, similarly to Japanese cuisine, which was recently added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. RIHAKU’s work, while respecting the origins of Japanese calligraphy, aims towards a new style of art creation using materials other than those traditionally used in calligraphy, as a form of expressive art similar to - or even superior to - films and music. She sincerely hopes for this to be an emotionally resonant new Japanese art, with the power to stimulate the senses of people around the world, even when viewed by those with no knowledge of Japanesekanji and hiragana writing.
