This event has ended.

The Ukrainian Institute of America presents the art project “Following the Inner Light,” which celebrates the Bicentennial of Taras Shevchenko’s birth. Similar to previous cultural programs at the Ukrainian Institute of America, “Following the Inner Light” strives to provide common ground for the interaction between artists and people of good will from America and Ukraine.
___
At this significant but difficult time for the Ukrainian people, artists Petro Bevza and Mykola Zhuravel, are searching for solutions to the problems of the new Ukrainian society in various art forms. They are striving to deal with the key question today of the possibility of marrying “heavenly” and “earthly” truth in everyday life, and to find connections between personal interpretation of ideas and philosophical systems.
___
These two different artists have joined together in the art project “Following the Inner Light” to celebrate the legacy of the Great Kobzar (Taras Shevchenko), as the root of the tree of life of modern Ukrainian art, and to focus on his artistic ideas, as the creator of vision and essence of the cultural development of Ukrainians. Bevza and Zhuravel engage in a spontaneous dialogue that draws the viewer into the creative process of his/her own search and the understanding of life.
___
We hope that all visitors of “Following the Inner Light” will be engaged in a productive and joyful dialogue with the art and that the artistic path that they take during the exhibition will result in greater enrichment and inspiration to all who seek it.
