Munch Gallery presents Frodo Mikkelsen’s second solo show at the gallery, ‘A Love Story’. A 30 year old New York love story, and everything in between, learned – and everything imagined. It’s about the yearning for travels, for artistic kinship, for that inexplicable more. It’s also a tangible love. Legends tied in with iconic architecture, the slow glide of shipped cargo down the East River, the riders in flecks of gold and strife, when twilight drinks down the grid of Manhattan. ‘A Love Story’ is about claiming your love. With love.
And Mikkelsen keeps coming back to New York. You will find him trolling the outskirts of the five boroughs looking for that something more. The neighborhood of 80s graffiti heros who once sparked the dream. The curbside treasures reassembled anew and mixed with acrylics, spray paint and markers back in his Copenhagen studio. Or simply quiet mornings by the river without the quest for anything new, because it’s easy to fade in and out of any love.
