Mimi Oritsky “Rock and Tree Debris”

Amos Eno Gallery

This event has ended.

Amos Eno Gallery presents Rock and Tree Debris, an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Mimi Oritsky. The exhibition title is derived from Oritsky’s recent REX series of paintings, inspired by an unstructured and scattered landscape, which she maneuvers into a painterly ordered chaos. Oritsky’s energized marks and textures give way to expanses of saturated color and stretches of light that exaggerate the movement between the air and chosen debris.

The REX series is complemented and enhanced by Oritsky’s series of drawings, Resting Shadow, which depict abstracted landscapes of dense forests. These works on paper focus on the essence of color in the shadows, while considering the atmosphere between the artist and the point upon which her eye rests. In both series, Oritsky examines the quality of airspace, while exploring space, scale, and time, and how it can be translated into paint.

Mimi Oritsky received her MFA from the University of Pennsylvania and her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has exhibited extensively in the United States and her work is included in several private, museum, and corporate collections. She has received recognition through Purchase Awards such as the Reading Public Museum and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts/Arcadia University, as well as Residence Fellowships from the Millay Colony for the Arts, the Artists for Environment Foundation and the Heliker-LaHotan Foundation.
