This event has ended.

The exhibition is named EARTHQUAKE COUNTRY. These oil and watercolor paintings originate from the steep mountain area along the Eastern Sierra Nevada and from deep within the dry badlands of the Anza Borrego Desert. Culp’s lush colors, along with her strong tactile drawing, make these risky landscape paintings come alive, inviting the viewer to become part of their rhythmic movement.

As Lance Esplund so poetically stated in his July 2010 review of Culp’s work in the Gallery Guide section of the Wall Street Journal:

…despite her struggle with the elements, Ms. Culp arrives in these expressive oils, charcoals and watercolors at a place of structural clarity and composure—while making palpable the rush she feels interacting with nature. Her pictures’ restless skies and stepped, sharply carved mountain peaks retain the vastness, monumentality and naturalism of their subjects. Yet ultimately she is painting not the landscape but the thrill of engagement.
