The Abrazo Interno Gallery at Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Educational Center cordially invites the public to view a cross-section of Puerto Rican contemporary art from the highly regarded José Hernandez Castrodad Collection. Hernandez Castrodad, a collector and an advocate for contemporary artists in Puerto Rico, exhibits part of his collection for the first time in New York City. CONCRETE ILLUSIONS presents 32 provocative works from twenty renowned and emerging Puerto Rican artists with a focus on urban Caribbean space(s), both intimate and public. The selected works explore these spaces from multiple stances, the physical, personal, psychological and sociological. The show examines a range of issues from negligence in urban planning and the resultant overcrowding to individual and collective transformation in the Caribbean. Some of the many buzzed about exhibiting artists include, Jesús "Bubu" Negrón, Sofía Maldonado, Karlo Andrei Ibarra and Josué Pellot. This exhbit is co-curated by Norma Vila Rivero and Anabel Vázquez Rodríguez.
