Paul approaches experience with optimistic curiosity and a particular attraction to the creepy and absurd. When strange recollections allow the imagination to run riot, waking experience feels like a dream and it causes us to question the reality of the moment with a sense of awe.
Flinders works intuitively allowing the freedom to explore form. Without expectation or concern, non-idiomatic improvisation takes over and the subject emerges both personal and archetypal, abstract and representational. Paul’s work invites the viewer into private and transcendent moments where they may either exist as intruders or guests.
