"Home" Exhibition

poster for "Home" Exhibition

This event has ended.

A group of children living in homeless shelters in New York will have their first professional gallery exhibition, showing their artwork alongside some of Chelsea’s best known artists. The proceeds of the event will fund a mentoring program so the children will be supported in connecting with established artists in the Chelsea art community going forward.

The project was the initiative of Ground Arts Organization, who are dedicated to helping children reach their potential in life through nurturing of creative expression. The Home Exhibition is a collaboration between the Ground Arts Organization and Art Start who have worked with children in New York’s homeless shelter system for over two decades.

The exhibition will be a dialogue on the meaning of "home," from the perspectives of the children of Art Start and established artists, similarly creating work on the subject of home.

The artwork will be sold by silent auction and all proceeds will benefit the children. Our goal is to fund a mentoring program where children have the opportunity to integrate with working artists in Chelsea, to further instill the message that a creative life can be a sustainable and prosperous one. In effect, the "Home" exhibition will manifest a creative home for the children in the Chelsea artist community.

Established artists were invited to create and donate an art piece 12 X 12 inches and under, on the subject of what home means to them. Art work is being received from dozens of countries around the world and works by New York based artists are still pouring into the GroundArts Gallery in advance of the show.
