This event has ended.

The Kravets/Wehby Gallery presents the opening of HUNTRESS, a three person exhibition featuring new works by Alison Blickle, Sydney Chastain-Chapman, and Aya Uekawa. The three painters each create visually stunning images of women in uniquely introspective situations.

Alison Blickle creates luminous paintings in jewel tones and dramatic hues. Gorgeous figures and lux environments are deconstructed by bold patterns overlaying one another. Nudity gives way to a new surface. The placement of ceramics and the deliberate poses of each figure allude to a secret narrative of mysticism, and sisterhood.

Sydney Chastain-Chapman’s paintings fill the surface with patterns and color depicting extravagances of wild girlhood and ephemeral beauty. Behind the calm, refined faces of her subjects, the paintings diagram the awkwardness of daily life.

In Aya Uekawa’s portraiture the stillness of her figures’ face and the vibrancy of the background are each drawn with cinematic precision. Lighting and tone recall a woman surrendering. Her larger painting is a self-reflection as well as an adaptation of Ophelia’s death.
