Julie Peppito “Connected”
Heskin Contemporary
This event has ended.
Connected is Julie Peppito’s third solo exhibit at Heskin Contemporary, opening October 17th, she presents two and three dimensional portraits comprised of tapestry-like masses, realistically rendered imagery, and fantastical narratives in which the subject is also an active participant. By using found objects that her subjects collect, Peppito makes metaphorical connections that reflect our simultaneous appreciation for and aversion to possessions at a time when our habits of consumption have a profound effect on the fate of our planet. Small keepsakes, flotsam, and other objects of sundry value to their owner are cocooned, layered, drawn on, and sewn into the surface of paper, wire, and clay. The resulting works evoke the beauty and degradation of all the “stuff” that passes through our lives - some to be kept forever, some lost or tossed away, all eventually becoming part of our collective history of garbage. In keeping with her commitment to connection and participation, Peppito is donating 10% of the money collected from each piece to Hurricane Sandy and Climate Change relief efforts.
