This event has ended.

Rose Weinstock’s exhibition,Additional Architectural Paintings, returns to a theme that has interested her for many years. The paintings are carefully observed depictions of quotidian subjects transformed into unique images that express the artist’s emotional reaction to the subject. Although painted in a straightforward manner, with attention to detail, there is considerable concern for formal issues. The compositions are carefully constructed and emphasize abstract relationships. Close cropping and the geometry of shapes intensify formal power. Color and light and shadow evoke mood.
Weinstock works from observation, memory and photos; but during the process, the needs of the painting take over and determine the final appearance. Both the formal issues and the concern with content are important. Without them realism would become merely illustration.
The artist often repeats a subject until she feels she has internalized it. Variety and freshness in these series are achieved by using different media as well as changes in scale. Many paintings begin with a small oil sketch, move on to a small to medium size work and end with a large painting.
Weinstock was born in and resides in NYC and has spent many summers in Vermont. Recent one person exhibitions include four at the Blue Mountain Gallery, the Port Washington Library, the Interchurch Center and the Arts Club of Washington (DC). Important group shows include two juried exhibitions at the National Academy of Design and also two at the New Jersey Center for the Visual Arts. At two exhibitions at the Heckscher Museum(Huntington N.Y.), she received citations for excellence; and at two others at the National Association for Women Artists she received the “Best in Show”award.
Weinstock received a BA from Wellesley College and did graduate work at Columbia University. Her studio studies were at the National Academy of Design with Harvey Dinnerstein, at Queens College with Charles Cajori and with Shirley Gorelick.
