Emily Berger: “My work is experiential, meditative and intuitive. I am interested in the light and rhythm created by repetitive and deliberate gesture in these paintings and drawings. I brush, wipe, rub, and scrape, concealing and revealing underlying layers in various states of solidity and transparency, often incorporating the color, texture and pattern of the supports. In the interaction of chance and control, gesture and structure, openness and containment, I hope to create a sense of movement and mystery about what is hidden and what revealed. Though the work is abstract, some of my inspiration derives from the light, color and industrial landscape of the Gowanus neighborhood I see framed through my studio windows.”

Emily Berger lives and works in Brooklyn. Her work has been exhibited internationally and in the United States in many galleries, universities and museums including the Museum of Modern Art in Bogota, Colombia, and The National Academy Museum in NYC which awarded her the John Hultberg Memorial Prize for Painting. Most recently her work was shown with Anne Russinof and Nancy Manter in SEEING THROUGH at 490 Atlantic and Soapbox galleries in Brooklyn, and in PHAEDO at StorefrontBushwick. Nicholas Constantakis: “For this series of drawings I have taken and then altered photographs of trees to understand how the space in-between each branch and limb is organized. I then attempt to recreate these spaces from memory with my drawings. From the window of a plane I see the in-between spaces created by roads, paths and waterways, and I recognize how they resemble the in-betweens formed by the trees.”

Born in Brooklyn, Nicholas Constantakis spent his youth on the shores of Long Island and in the mountains of Pennsylvania. He graduated from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington DC before returning to Brooklyn where he currently lives and works. His work has been presented in numerous exhibitions including Smack Mellon (Brooklyn), Viridian Gallery (New York), Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington DC), Art Museum of the Americas (Washington DC), Red Hook Waterfront Gallery (Brooklyn)among others.

Iona Kleinhaut: “Painting is a process of searching. The works are built up with a slow physicality. Layersintertwine : the image dissolves, evolves, and recreates itself yet again. A web structure emerges. The webbing defines, protects, smothers.”

Iona Kleinhaut lives and works in NYC. Her work has been included in exhibitions atThe New Museum, The Bronx Museum, The Drawing Center, The Painting Center. Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Jersey City Museum,Parsons School of Design and Hostos Gallery.

Kimberly Mayhorn creates large-scale, site-responsive installations, assemblages, and sculptures that are process-driven and often influenced by a historical context, then stripped away from their initial motivation, pared down to a singular thought and built back up slowly to create a new language and narrative in her artwork. One of her most recent works, The Manufacturing of Race, combines installation and sculpture to explore classic and contemporary understanding of issues around race, identity and environment in the United States.

Kimberly Mayhorn’s work has been exhibited at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Rush Arts in New York, Five Myles in Brooklyn, Aljira in Newark, The African American Museum in Philadelphia, The University Museum at Texas Southern University in Houston, and the African American Museum in Dallas. She is an Emmy nominated video editor for her work in the television industry.
