This event has ended.

Amos Eno Gallery presents, Nights on Dry Land & other photographic artist’s books, a solo exhibition of one of Amos Eno Gallery’s newest members, Cynthia Laureen Vogt. The hand-made books in this exhibition are finely sewn collages made from original photographs that have been altered and reproduced as laser or xerography prints on paper and acetate.

Overlaid acetate transparencies create areas where subtle reflections shift and change with one’s relative position to each work, while photographic evidence of movement is to be found in images of blurred, often disappearing traces of matter. Many of the photographs are of cut-out wooden alphabetical letters and numbers, lending the “text” an illusion of physical dimension, while abstracted silhouettes of human gestures create another kind of text. The accordion fold book format in part determines the rhythmic structure and composition of the piece ranging from languorous to rapid, and allows for its open and sculptural display.

Vogt earned her BFA at the University of Utah and her MFA in Photography at the University of Arizona. Exhibiting for over 30 years in the United States and Japan, Vogt’s work is included in several notable private and public collections. She has taught photography courses at both the University of Arizona and the Tucson Arts Museum. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Vogt currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
