Evelyn Twitchell “Recent Work”
Bowery Gallery
This event has ended.
In these new paintings, clay reliefs, prints and drawings, the artist continues to explore elements of the natural world. Combining both representational and abstract language, Twitchell’s works range from intimate and closely observed to immersive and expressionistic. This collection of evocative distillations builds toward an interactive garden, a narrative of sorts, in which we experience the dynamics of nature.
Twitchell’s artwork has been included in group shows around the country, including the contemporary art fairs Pulse Miami and Pulse New York, and has been featured or reviewed in artcritical.com, City Arts, The Huffington Post, The L Magazine, The New York Sun, The New Republic and Whitewall magazine. She was awarded a residency at Yaddo in 2011.
Reviewing her work in Schroeder Romero & Shredder’s 2011 exhibition, Pavers, in City Arts, John Goodrich wrote: “Evoking trees and sky, the earthy greens and silvery blues of Evelyn Twitchell’s canvas exude a meditative luminosity.”
David Cohen, discussing her 2010 show at Bowery Gallery in artcritical.com, praised Twitchell’s “penetrating explorations of growth and form,” as well as her “exquisite sculptural reliefs in painted clay.”
