Ikuko Roth Exhibition
Tenri Cultural Institute
This event has ended.
Ikuko Roth has been painting over six decades. She was born in 1928 in Tokyo, Japan. She did mostly figure painting in Japan. One such work is in this show. She came to the U.S. in 1962 with a Max Beckman Scholarship to the Brooklyn Museum Art School, 1962-1964. Later she went to Florida State University, 1970-1972, and earned an MFA.
She has been exposed to the many phases of the New York art world. But in the 70s, 80s and 90s she devoted her own work to outdoor oil painting. Her love of nature gave her inexaustable inspiriation in doing dramatic vistas of the Maine coast, eastern Canada, NY state waterfalls, Washington State mountains, London, south France and Italy. She has depicted the spirit of these places and respected their features with free brush strokes and colors. Early at this time she did the special painting of our two little boys, ages 6 and 7. She wished to make a record of their young time.
She obtained a Pollack-Krasner Foundation Grant in 2011. She is especially pleased that in her present advanced age they appreciated her vision of painting. She wishes that her paintings make people happy.
