Group Show
Bowery Gallery
This event has ended.
The exhibition will include some forty-odd works—one work per artist—on formats no wider than 24 inches. With the majority of the works oil paintings, the show also extends to work in media such as acrylic on paper, monotype, color reduction linocut, plaster relief sculpture, and needlepoint. Some of the artists in the exhibition have mounted numerous exhibitions at the Bowery Gallery and elsewhere in New York, while others in this show are introducing their work for the first time at the gallery.
The Bowery Gallery has been presenting solo and group exhibitions of tradition-minded artists since 1969, first on the Lower East Side, later in SoHo and for the past decade on 25th Street in Chelsea. Gallery artists include widely shown artists as well as newcomers to the New York scene. Representational as well as abstract artists are represented, with painting and sculpture that originates from invention and literary sources as well as from direct observation. Gallery artists are active as teachers in universities, art schools, and schools in the tri-state area, and include writers on art for major national publications.
Bowery Gallery exhibitions have been discussed in the pages of The New York Times, The New Republic, Art in America, Modern Painters, CityArts, the Wall Street Journal, the New Criterion, as well as online in tnr.com and on artcritical.com, among others.
