First Street Gallery presents the opening of the exhibition Krigstein: A Graphic Novel by Joseph D'Esposito in gallery 2.

Is he a painter or a comic book artist, or is he both? That's the story that Joseph D'Esposito wants to tell in a graphic medium. Based on the life of Bernie Krigstein, comic book innovator and painter. Inspired by his crusade to make "comic books" a legitimate medium during the early 50's. Bernie Krigstein was mostly known for his comic book work, but in certain periods in his life he turned to abstract and impressionist painting. After working in comics he started to illustrate book jackets, album covers, and contributed to magazines like Harpers and American Heritage. Joseph D'Esposito was a student of Bernie Krigstein at the High School of Art and Design in New York City. As a comic book fan D'Esposito was influenced by Krigstein's love of fine art and comic books.
