Yukiko Tsushima "Nippon Now"

Gallery Onetwentyeight

This event has ended.

Yukiko Tsushima will present a selection of mixed media paintings and also debut her series of drawings inspired by the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.

Numbers & Colors - Birthday 366 is a compilation of 366 drawings by Yukiko Tsushima. In an old Japanese custom, everyone receives their “First Number” on the day of their birth. The drawings are a personal character analysis of one’s date of birth taken from a collection of 15 years from over 2000 people.

“Immediately after the Great Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami I had trouble picking up a brush. I received a letter from a dear friend in New York who inspired me to create something that would remind us of the loved ones we lost and those who suffer deeply from the Earthquake and Tsunami. I knew I had to witness the devastation myself so that I could put my images on paper for others to see and to remember those who we lost on that day. I have dedicated my research to all who were affected by the tragedy. My wish is that we will never forget those we lost on March 11, 2011 and that everyone who looks at my work will take a moment of prayer for them and their surviving loved ones and also the countless possibilities there are. I pray for peace in your life and the souls of the departed.” Yukiko Tsushima
