This event has ended.

The Hole presents a group show of young Nordic artists curated by Jens-Peter Brask opening in Gallery 3 here at the Hole, this Friday March 30th. Mr. Brask has put together a group of the nine most exciting young artists from Denmark with works across media from painting and drawing to sculpture and installation.

Michael Kvium is one of Scandanavia’s most distinctive painters whose work has an immediately recognizable take on figuration that is bizarre, existentially elongated, and humorously obtuse. Kaspar Sonne explores a similar angst through text, minimalism and monolith, and exhibits here two large monochrome paintings. Jan Hansen is interested in the alchemical and the mythological and in the works exhibited transforms the picture plane with strange new materials. John Kørner works with large colorful paint strokes to evoke figures, landscapes, and abstractions, demonstrating a passion for bright yellow. Søren Benche works across media and is perhaps most well known for his intelligent art interventions in the public sphere in Copenhagen. HuskMitNavn makes community-driven sculpture and paintings that feature his signature cartoon style and will present two new works made especially for this American exhibition. Maiken Bent works with a bevy of non-art materials to make contraptions and thingamabobs that evoke both the architectural and the hand made craft object. Peter Funch explores bizarre cultural phenomenon in his photographic works here that document a beach dangerously close to an aircraft base.

Jens-Peter Brask is a curator, collector and art enthusiast who lives and works in Copenhagen. He began engaging with art through his graffiti roots and has one of the best collections of graffiti art and art based on street culture and the public sphere. He also runs a very influential art blog Braskart.com
