This event has ended.

On Sunday, August 5, 2012 several art event organizers in New York City are collaborating for a special evening of film screenings, musical performances, guest speakers, Fukushima photo exhibition and art reception for post 3.11 Japan. This cultural event will bring together people to share information and raise awareness about what is happening in Japan, especially near Fukushima, where residents are still suffering from the aftermath of the 3.11 earthquake and nuclear disaster.

We will kickoff the film screenings with a short documentary by Peace Boat about the earthquake and tsunami, followed by "Fukushima Never Again" a film about the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, produced by Labor Video Project, Dir. Steve Zeltzer and Kazumi Torii. As a guest speaker, an independent filmmaker, Yuki Kokubo, will be present and showing a trailer of her film that shows a more personal perspective of her parents living in Japan in the aftermath of the earthquake. Guest speakers include Alice Slater and Emilie McGlone, followed by a special classical performance by singer Yumi Thomas.
The event will also include two art exhibitions. "Sustainable Future, Recounting the Steps of Fukushima" features photography by international photographers that captured the effects of the earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster including Kenta Sato, Mori Satoshi, Allison Kwesell, Takumi Sakamoto, Anthony Ballard, Brian Peterson, Candle June, Clive France, Jack Baldwin, Jan Smith, Kyle Gibson, and Masahiko Higashi.

There will also be a fine art exhibition by visual artists including Yuko Oda, Timur York, David Ter-Avanesyan, Dee Shapiro, Elissa Levy, Rob de Oude, Kevin Vast
Enrico Gomez, William Holton, Beatrice Schleyer and many more.

The proceeds from this event will be sent directly to the following organizations that work with long term and short term evacuation efforts of children in Fukushima. Proceeds will be donated to Fukushima Kids Peace Boat Project (http://peaceboat.jp/relief/), an international NPO working in Fukushima for short-term evacuation efforts with children from Fukushima, where youth can take short trips away from the affected areas on the Peace Boat to travel and have cultural exchanges with other parts of the world.

We are thrilled to announce that Spin Gallery, a spacious gallery & event space owned by Susan Sarandon in Manhattan, is generously offering us a home for our benefit show.
