This event has ended.

Tally Beck Contemporary presents an exhibition of Indian artist Prabir Purkayastha’s photographs of the people and landscapes of the unique area of India that borders Tibet.

Ancient Grace: Prabir Purkayastha’s Photographs of India’s Ladakh Region will comprise 23 black-and-white photographs taken between 1998 and 2008. Purkayastha traveled multiple times to this remote region of northern India to capture the harsh landscape and its isolated population in all four seasons. Ladakh borders Pakistan and the restive Chinese regions of Xinjiang and Tibet. The culture of the vast, sparsely-populated region has been heavily influenced by Tibet, and Ladakh remains one of the few bastions of Buddhism in South Asia.

Purkayastha is an award-winning photographer from Central India and is currently based in New Delhi. He has previously exhibited in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Mumbai, Calcutta, New Delhi and Cologne.
