Mary Ryan Gallery presents APOTHECARY (storehouse), an exhibition of new paintings on paper by David Schorr. The exhibition includes some 60-plus works depicting antique apothecary bottles whose contents include poetic memories (“Sleepless Nights”), elusive remedies (“Good News”), withheld desires, or secrets. Each is meticulously executed in gouache and silverpoint on Fabriano Roma paper, and the bottles’ labels, written many different languages (English, Italian, Hungarian, Yiddish, among others), often taken from literature, film, music, theater, and popular culture.
