This event has ended.

Colliding Complexities: Extreme Feats of the New York-New Aesthetic is an exhibition of New York artists whose work navigates complex methods of production in the physical and digital realms. The “New Aesthetic” began as a Tumblr by James Bridle, and its core theme is the utilization of technological tools to augment our view of the contemporary world. Bruce Sterling asserts that the “New Aesthetic” concerns itself with “an explosion of the digital into the physical.”

The cutting-edge works in this exhibit exemplify the “New Aesthetic” from the perspective of New York practitioners Pedro Barbeito, [dNASAb], Cliff Evans, Carla Gannis, Shane Hope, Michael Rees, John F. Simon Jr., Vargas-Suarez Universal, Oliver Warden and Marius Watz.

The goals of this exhibition are to define the parameters of the “New Aesthetic” in relation to the fine arts, to highlight the non “digital native” artists who are the passionate “frontiersmen” of the “NEW” in their decision to adopt the tools of the “NOW,” and to encourage further discourse and collaboration in the delineation of what constitutes the “New Aesthetic” in contemporary art.
