This event has ended.

First Street Gallery artists join the Westminster Kennel Club, which holds its 135th Annual Dog Show on February 14th and 15th, in celebrating the dog. Gallery artists draw and paint dogs ranging from those of noble bearing and pure breed to those without titles but with boundless charm.
Since pre-historic times, artists have lovingly portrayed dogs. Veronese has dogs at the Last Supper; Titian presents them in their traditional role as a symbol of fidelity at the feet of reclining nudes; Velasquez brings them into the court; Lucian Freud’s dogs circle close to his models. More than any other animal, the dog tries to please human beings and, therefore, seems to understand human wishes, signals, and feelings. As a result, we love them all the more.
