Stephen Wilkes "Day to Night"
ClampArt
This event has ended.
In Wilkes‘ latest series of photographs he combines Interest in architectural imagery evident previous bodies of work with classic street photography to produce Day to Night. For each artwork the series repeatedly photographs an iconic New York City scene from a static vantage point for a minimum often hours in one session, "capturing," as Wilkes puts it, "a fluid visual narrative of day to night within a single frame."
Wilkes‘ process can be seen as emblematic of the city itself--a place continually written and rewritten by the movements and actions of its citizens and visitors over the course of their passage through its streets. The photographs of Day to Night reject the possibility of finding one single instant that could accurately represent these sites. Instead, through the conflation of hundreds of moments, the photographs endeavor to capture a more comprehensive view of a city of such epic scale.
