Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Programs is proud to host: A SUNY-New Paltz Alumni Invitational -make·shift-
SUNY-New Paltz Fine and Performing Arts Alumni is proud to announce the opening of their Alumni Invitational, make·shift. This exhibit is organized with support from The Art Department of SUNY at New Paltz and is presented with the cooperation of the Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Programs.
The fields of metal and ceramics have historically provided a foundation of utilitarian wares and decorative pursuits. But a shift has occurred. This staid expectation no longer resonates with young artists, instead, a framework of objects and materials located within the quotidian and domestic spheres of conversation define the parameters of this work.
This show proposes to cover the transitional space within craft and art. The work is ostensibly focused on the materials and objects of our everyday encounter.
Make·shift is a challenge to the ubiquity of what we know and use, but seldom see as an expanded definition.
