This event has ended.

Ivan Rivera's current body of work explores the power of memories, their shifting nature, and the emotions they evoke. This is expressed through the sequential abstraction of the landscape. Through his process, the artist searches to capture what he calls an "Emotional Geography"—the changing representation of a space created by memories and feelings rather than physical geographical markers.

His process is one of many stages where one painting is recreated from the memory of a previous one. Through this approach of recreation, each successive edition moves farther away from the original, mirroring the way memories change with time.

Rivera primarily works with the medium of Encaustic to create multi-layered, complex surfaces of pigment and wax on wood. This medium allows him to create dream-like visages that conjure up the appearance of distant memories and shifting emotions.
