Artist and curator Tony Cox is proud to present the paintings of Joe Roberts and Derrick Snodgrass. He has chosen to pair these two artists because their work is complimentary, despite the artists coming from different backgrounds. They share a surreal world of landscapes in which the commonplace landscape is enlivened with a twist of humor and psychedelia. While Roberts’s work is more playful and Snodgrass’s is more abstracted, both artists are dispensing the same concept: making art for sanity’s sake.

Joe Roberts was born in Madison, Wisconsin. Growing up, comic books were his main reading material and are still an influence on his work. He briefly attended the San Francisco Art Institute, but claims he mostly learned about drugs. Using anything from crayons and paint, to trash and cut paper, his work combines humor with a raw and spontaneous aesthetic, creating a world of cartoon imagery laced with personal symbolism. Roberts has shown in New York, San Francisco, Milwaukee and Chicago. Currently, he lives and works in San Francisco.

Derrick Snodgrass was born in Kentucky. is a self taught artist and tattoo-artist. His work has been exhibited in San Francisco, London and Mexico City. He enjoys drawing and painting surreal kaleidoscopic landscapes, as if seen from the passenger window on a trip to a fantasy world of somnambulation. Previously situated in the Bay Area of California, he currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.

Curator, Tony Cox was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He spent 15 years of his life as a continental drifter, living in California, New York and Spain. During this time he took photos, collected materials unique to their origin and applied hand embroidery to create assemblages he refers to as "recycled relations." Cox recently had his debut solo show "White Thrash mystic" at 211 Elizabeth St in New York. He has also shown at American Fine Arts, Deitch Projects, James Fuentes and Museo de la Ciudad de Mexico. Cox lives and works in New York City.
