Kirk Stoller "On Point"
RYAN LEE
This event has ended.
This exhibition features work from Kirk Stoller's (b. 1960, Portland, OR) recent residency at the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation (2010-2011). Stoller creates sculptures made of wood, plastics, and found objects that often require the support of a wall or the floor. This theme of connection and support is constant in his work, along with the narratives that emerge as the different sculptural elements relate to each other and their surroundings. Stoller assembles these disparate parts based on formal issues of color, pattern and shape, as well as the individual history of each object.
For this exhibition, Stoller will install precariously positioned sculptures that he feels, "reflect the precipice of our current world situation...Will there be a glorious awakening or a collapse into disjointed disarray? Between incredible scientific breakthroughs and hysterical predictions of the apocalypse, it is possible to foresee both the enlightenment of the human race and its destruction."
