This event has ended.

Graham Gallery presents an exhibition of new work by Joe Fyfe. "Wood / Cloth / Color" marks Fyfe's fourth solo show with the gallery and will present for the first time a selection of Fyfe's paintings, sculpture and large format photographs. Fyfe is perhaps best known for his use of material - burlap, felt, or muslin collected on his travels around the world, and used in the studio to assemble strong, sensually colored compositions and constructions.
Fyfe's photographs, paintings and sculpture serve as visual maps of physical journeys to Bangladesh, Phnom Penh, Viet Nam, from the point of experience to memory. Fyfe appropriates bits of places, bolts of cloth shipped home, which are chosen for what they evoke and their inability to be recreated elsewhere. Fyfe's photographs record cultures' unconsciously artful improvisation; colorful tented houses on stilts, like his paintings, are made from only what is available. Fyfe describes his sculpture, "on the one hand very artistic and on the other it's trying to include the half of the world that sits in a shack next to a muddy road selling something."
