"Paper Trails: Selected Works from the Collection, 1934–2001" Exhibition
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
This event has ended.
The modern and contemporary artists in this installation have translated their fascination with paper into works that defy conventional definitions of drawing. Treating paper as a material rather than a mere support, they have used processes of tearing and cutting to generate line and form, resulting in a surprising range of formal and expressive effects. Through their richly varied approaches to paper, these artists explore and elaborate the intimate immediacy associated with the act of drawing.
