This event has ended.

The scope of this yearʼs Curate NYC competition has significantly increased from its 2010 debut and now includes more artists, more galleries, in addition to an online component. “After a highly publicized submission process, we are excited for the gallery to have an integral role in introducing some of the best emerging contemporary visual talent in the city to the public,” explains Bill Hodges. “Everyone is always looking for the next Basquiat, Rothko, Banksy or Hirst whether itʼs consciously or subconsciously. And itʼs not unimaginable for him or her to be
discovered through this initiative.”

“The arts, overall, is part of what makes New York City a place where people want to visit, people want to live, people want to shop, people want to spend. And the artists who live here should be part of that economy, in terms of benefitting from it,” explains Brian Tate, Curate NYC Co-producer. “Mayor Bloomberg really has a great love for the arts and wants to see the arts thrive in New York City and this is one of his initiatives,” explains Danny Simmons, Curate NYC Co-producer. “And in terms of trends for this yearʼs submissions, a lot of people are really pushing limits and exploring new boundaries and new territories through unusual sculptures, unusual paintings, and unusual voices of expression, taking art to a lot of different places that I have never seen before.”

A unique citywide showcase that heightens visibility and career opportunities for New York City visual artists, Curate NYC also helps promote the city's image as a cultural hub.
