"Contemporary Expressions: Art from the Guyana Diaspora" Exhibition
FiveMyles
This event has ended.
When it comes to fitting into variously defined categories and narratives, Guyana, the only Anglophone country on the continent of South America, is often caught between its close cultural, political, and historical ties to the Caribbean Islands, and its physical location on the mostly Latin mainland. The result is that this vital, multicultural, and multiracial former outpost of the British Empire is often overlooked in reviews of Latin American art, and is only grudgingly admitted into an occasional West Indian themed exhibition. However, relative to its size, the country has produced more than its share of extraordinarily accomplished artists.
