This event has ended.

Distancing itself from the actual world, Lacey Kim’s paintings express what does not exist in a clear form through a balance of contradictions. The ‘line,’ among others, has been a means and messenger of expressing the state of ‘her being free.’ It has various forms, sometimes a round one, and in other times a straight one. In addition, it shows a feeling of being sometimes slow and sometimes fast. She presents the unrestricted infinity of the world through the lines in her painting.

Kim is seeking a harmony of the opposites, consciousness and unconsciousness in her paintings. She wishes her work to be a medium that communicates between a visible world and an invisible one. The idea is that a deep space with various layers, enables us to experience a space that transcends the two-dimensional world of painting. Lines and colors, which cross one another freely and create a variety of unexpected forms provide images with a new potential. Subtle changes in paintings help us to reach the level of spiritual meditation.

Lacey Kim was born in South Korea. She received B.F.A degree in Seoul Women’s University in Korea, M.A degree in Nottingham Trent University in the UK, and M.F.A degree in Pratt Institute, NY. Her work has been exhibited in numerous cities such as New York, Chicago, Miami, and Seoul and this is Kim’s 6th solo show.
