This event has ended.

D’Amelio Terras presents its second exhibition by New York artist Robert Moskowitz. Moskowitz is widely known as a prominent figure in the New Image Painters, a group of artists named after the 1978 Whitney exhibition that marked a return to an overt figurative style in painting after the conceptual periods of Minimalism, performance and installation.

The exhibition will present a tight grid of drawings, shown for the first time since they were created during a stay in Rome in 2004/2005. The grid installation reinforces a cinematic effect from frame to frame. Reductive silhouettes of birds, a smoke stack, the Empire State building and the Flatiron building play against the immensity of open skies, interrupted by burst of spay paint. The background either black or white flicker images between positive and negative, as if they were separated only by the closing shutter of a camera, recording the passage of time.

Opposite to the subdued mural-effect created by the group of drawings, the 2010 painting of Moskowitz offers a bright contrast: a flock of birds, rendered with unusual contour details crosses a bright yellow expanse of sun-drenched sky.
