The first solo U.S. exhibition of Chinese painter Li Songsong features new large-scale oil paintings. The artist’s multicolored grids of thick impasto transform photographs and found images—ranging from charged moments in recent Chinese history to personal snapshots—into abstraction. The rich paintings create a dissonance between content and style, both obscuring and neutralizing the original content as they explore the imperfection of memory.
