This event has ended.

But that’s a different story… highlights a cross-section of photographic practices in the 21st century. As the New York Photo Festival explores the future of contemporary photography, A.I.R. Gallery contributes the distinctive vision of women employing photography in their art.

Daria Dorosh presents cut, twisted, and hand-colored photographic prints from her LOOP series. Her constructions are paradoxically two- and three-dimensional, narrative and abstract. Pattern and color fuse the photographic illusion with the looped structure as the imagery peels back and interacts with the other side, creating a pattern that cascades like a textile.

Jeanette May explores the female gaze through staged scenes of men in their contemporary Bachelor pads. She produces photographs located somewhere between portraiture and documentary that allow women (and men) to stare unabashedly at beautiful men in the context of their private space. Bachelor contributes a new twist to the ongoing conversation about gender and difference.

Shelia Ross introduces Cloud, a new series of photographs taken through the airplane’s window during trips between NYC and her English homeland. Shot at or above cloud-level, her large digital prints revel in the sheer presence of sky, cloud, and the space beyond. Ross offers us a mostly unseen aspect of our daily reality: the greater universe in which we live.
