poster for Enzo Cucchi "Interior Costume"

This event has ended.

Enzo Cucchi, born in 1949, is a prominent Italian artist who together with Francesco Clemente, Nicola De Maria and Mimmo Paladino , led the Italian Neo – Expressionist movement named by art critic Achille Bonito Oliva as Transavanguardia. Cucchi's first major retrospective was held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, in 1986, and his works are to be found in numerous museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art - New York, the Tate - London, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Enzo Cucchi lives and works in Rome and Ancona. “Interior Costume” derives from “Costume Interiore” exhibition, curated by esteemed art critic Achille Bonito Oliva, originally on view at the National Museum of Capodimonte in Naples, and later transferred to MACRO (the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome). It features works in papier mache that reflect Enzo Cucchi’s symbolic and dream-like internal world. Floating and hanging figures (heads, skulls, thin spheres) reverberate inside the gallery and take the visitor on a visionary journey to the essence of an intimate vision of image and sense…. “ Art which doesn`t mean to dress (like fashion ) but to undress , to show a naked humanness bringing it back to an intimate concentration and to a not epidermic aesthetic pleasure” (Achille Bonito Oliva)
