Dan Rizzie Exhibition
Gerald Peters Gallery, New York
This event has ended.
In this new series of works, surfaces come alive with an aggressive texture accented by patterned spheres, floating objects and abstracted botanical forms. Rizzie is infatuated with the poetic aesthetics of simple shapes that work together in harmony. These shapes and surfaces are reworked and repaired, sanded, scraped, and often embellished a second time, reflecting back to a mystifying thread that meanders throughout his work. The old and the new become one, inviting a visual dialogue with the viewer. His constant search for new materials takes him all over the world; most recently to India. Rizzie searches for new materials that reveal his love of the printed surface and a fondness for the past. His careful, intimate placement of these materials pays tribute to artists like Kurt Schwitters, Paul Klee and Henri Matisse, yet Rizzie manages to create a balancing act that is imaginative, unconventional and inherently his own.
